The Difficult First Post

So, I sit down to a brand new blog. Where to start? I’ve finished all the formalities. The strucutre is in place, the blog is live, the page is purple! Ah! Purple! It’s time to write my first post.

Should I begin as the bright n breezy, blogging-blow-in? (Oh, that was far too much unintended alliteration!) Casually whipping down a few hundred words, all blaise. OR. Do I go for the ambitious and provocative argument – “Mary Harney is a Saint”. The long and tight rant on why I love the woman everyone loves to hate. (No-one would read it, everyone would hate it.) OR. Should I go all revelatory and gaze at my navel. Tell the world that my left baby toe is a little sore coz my boots were a smidgen too tight.

So, as I often do, I look to others for inspiration. My good friend Paddy took up blogging and introduced himself to the world with this baby. Short, warm, humble & perfectly pitched. Others reveal much more – something I really admire – and power through with a great idea and touching sensitivity. Yet, others gather a great gaggle of girlies for a daily chat. Others are critical, analytical and often on the inside track. And, others just speak about their lives. The simplicity of daily life, and the joys of life ahead. Some teach, some travel, some dress.

Some collect and collate random treasures of the internet and others campaign. Some create art of our secrets and some share deep stories with strangers. Some eat, some save, and some make ice-cream.

Some take breathtaking photographs. And, some use photos to change the world. Some write, some run for election and some look like Obama doing it. Some sleep next door. Some have very pretty sites.

And some lucky yanks are career bloggers with 6 figure sums from doing just this. Someday. Maybe.

And lots and lots and LOTS for people just talk.

I don’t quite know what I’m doing just yet, but it’ll be fun to find out. And wow.Just like that. I’m blogging.
